yet also has the versatility to produce a darker eyeliner when requested. The Clinic's success, year
after year is based on being the only clinic able to give women
the natural appearance they want.
As our clients say, "You will know
the difference when you see it!:
The tested techniques that Lasting Effects Permanent Cosmetic Clinic is
sought after for are our feathered eyebrows, stroked eyeliners, and soft band
lipliners which allow the lip to be reshaped if you desire, while appearing to be real.

CHOOSING EQUIPMENT- FORM FOLLOWS
FUNCTION
What are the basics you
need to know before choosing the clinic where you will have you permanent cosmetics done?
1. Always look at the pictures to see if the cosmetics being done at the clinic and the artist style suits you.
Ask if the pictures are the actual work done by that technician on their real patients. (Some may show you nationally produced, airbrushed pictures. )
ALL PICTURES AT LASTING EFFECTS ARE OUR REAL PATIENTS AND THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE UNTOUCHED.
2. Ask what type of equipment is being used? Manual pen, Electric pen or a Professional Coil Machine? This affects the final appearance and how permanent they are.
FYI : THREE TYPES OF EQUIPMENT = THREE DIFFERENT LOOKS.
Do you want to look as if you are wearing a cosmetic tattoo, or do you want a soft, natural look?
There are three major
equipment classifications:
* Manual pens
* Electric
pens ( both dial and digital)
* Professional Coil Machine.
(Used at Lasting Effects TM)
Knowing the basic differences in
equipment before you choose a clinic.
ONLY the professional coil machines produce an appearance that looks soft, and
natural.

I. Manual pens.
These are small plastic pens, with large gauge, regular size tattoo needles.
The needles are hand punched into the skin. Patients report that this usually painful, even with topical.
and that the treatments take 2-3 hours and requires 2-3 treatments. Due to this
being a hand method, the instrument implants the least amount of pigment.
Who uses this equipment: About 10% or less of technicians in Maryland use this method.
Application usually results in :swelling, bleeding and scabbing before healing.
Appearance: This looks like a solid tattoo. Eyebrows are filled in solid, like an eyebrow pencil.
Some are even outlined around the outside. Lips have a hard, dark line. Eyeliner is sapplied in conjoining dots, the edge is irregular, not smooth.
Color on most cosmetics is dark and solid. Most patients feel this looks artifical, and appears to be a tattoo.
Color pattern: Dots, overlapping.
Permanency: Usually needs to be reapplied every year and is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo.
Our overall rating: Semi-permanent, painful, artificial in appearance.
II. Electric Pens. The electric pens are primarily from Asia and use large gauge, tattoo needles.
Patients report that this usually painful, even with topical. Treatments take 2-3 hours and requires 2-3 treatments. The appearance of looking hard and dark, like a tattoo.
Who uses this equipment:We find that at least 85-90 % of the technicians in Maryland
seem to be using this equipment.
Application usually results in : swelling, bleeding and scabbing before healing. Electric pens
implant more pigment that manual pens but the overall appearance is the same as the pen.
Appearance: This looks like a solid tattoo. Eyebrows are filled in solid, like an eyebrow pencil. Lips have a hard, dark line. Eyeliner is smudged , not smooth. Color is applied in overlapping dots. Color on most cosmetics is dark and solid. Most patients feel this looks artifical, and appears to be a tattoo.
Color pattern: Dots, overlapping.
Permanency: Usually needs to be reapplied every two years and is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo.
Our overall rating: Semi-permanent, painful, artificial in appearance.
III. The Professional Coil Machine is the equipment of choice for those who wish to
have the cosmetic be permanent ( 8-10 years) and natural looking. When done correctly it cause very little
swelling.
NOTE: A professional coil machine is the only equipment which can produce "the natural look",
using a wide assortment of
artistic strokes and or lines, with crisp or soft edges. Techncians who are skilled can also do thick, thin, light, dark, smooth, scattered & blending. It uses ultra fine tips, as fine as the width of a single hair. The most natural looking because the techncian can draw as if with a pen or brush. Eyebrows are done in strokes.
Due to the fine size of the tips, topicals are very effective & most patients report complete lack of any stinging.
Who uses this equipment: Roxanne uses this equipment and teaches this in our state approved school.
Few in Maryland have the education or training to use this equipment.
Application usually results in :Normal result: There no swelling on eyebrows and lips. You can go back to work or out to lunch afterwards. Eyeliner: Average patients experience minimal swelling on eyeliners- just along the edge of the liner. You should apply ice from time time, for 2 hours. All cosmetics-Very little pinkness. No bleeding & no scabbing.
Color pattern: Strokes or shading & blending. No dots!
Permanency: 6-12 years, before recoloring is required.
Our overall rating: Most permanent, not painful , (occasionally painful on lips) natural in appearance.
You can see why Lasting Effects TM
Permanent Cosmetic Clinic choose to use ONLY the coil machine.
The natural appearace is a combination of Roxanne's artistry, custom, soft colors and the coil machine and her technique. You can have individual,
feather stroked eyebrow hairs, smooth crisp stroked eyeliner and smooth,

About Permanent Cosmetics & Fading of Color.
There are several reason why color fades.
I. The equipment used:
Semi-permanent Pens: Color is applied into the skin in all forms of cosmetic tattoos. How many color particles the machine implants, and how may layers of color are implanted determines how long the color appears visable. Pens do not apply as much color as a professional coil machine, so the color fades. (*see above: "permanency".) Color applied with pens usually looks sheer, pale or have skipped sections as they begin to fade.
Permanent Machines: Color applied with a professional coil machine is done in lines or strokes, and is layered in. This assures smooth edges and maximizes the time before the cosmetic ages. This type of cosmetic will still be visable, but lighter over the years.
II . Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Retin-A and the laser.
Permanent cosmetic pigments are safely under the skin.
Most products in skin cremes do not affect the cosmetics. But, some new chemicals in skin cremes are designed to specifically penetrate down into the layer of skin where the pigment is. Alpha Hydroxy Acid is one such chemical, others are Retin-A and Salicylic Acids. Because these chemicals are acids, they will dissolve the color, lighten the color, change the color, smear the strokes into a faded pattern and can cause undertones in color to appear.
Lasting Effects TM patients are given instructions to never apply these cremes to the eyebrows or liner area. It is just common sense.
Laser hair removal and Laser photo-facials also remove color.
How can you help? Keep you skin care professionals informed if you have a permanent cosmetic.
They may not be famliar with the conflicts, so alert them about your concerns. When having a facial, ask the esthetician to apply vaseline over the eyebrows first. When having laser treatments ask the laser specialsts to apply the protective gels to the eyebrows to prevent penetration of the laser light into the eyebrow.
A little care is all it takes to keep your permanent cosmetic s from Lasting Effects TM fresh for years to come.
